MADDOCK-L:
About
the MADDOCK (and variations) Mailing List

MADDOCK-L is a 'no-cost' email based forum for subscribers to discuss aspects of the
history, geography and genealogy
of a large and extensive surname group.

Discussions may pertain to such spellings as
MADDIC, MADDICK, MADDICKS, MADIX, MADDIX, MADDOX, MADDUX,
MADOC, MADDOCK, MADDOCKS,
MATOC, MATTOC, MATTOCK, MATTOCKS, etc.
and ""ALL"" of the many other derivative spelling variations
that have been recorded in documents over time and space.

First offered through Larry Stephens' MAISER server at the University of Indiana on June 18, 1996, this List grew steadily until May 9, 1997, when the MAISER server was permanently disabled due to overload problems caused by a mass mailer, or 'spammer'. Slightly more than 80 subscribers were active at that time.

The MADDOCK-L List, with all of the original subscribers remaining active, made the migration to the Listserv at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada on Friday May 16, 1997. As of mid August, 1998, the number of subscribers hovers at around 130.

The List is managed through the use of LISTSERV software (Version 1.8c)
on a server which is located on the campus of Queen's University, at Kingston, Ontario.
The University's contribution and committment to this operation is gratefully acknowledged.
