Many Green Thumbs make Light Work, Great Gardens and a Vibrant
Organization!
The Kingston Horticultural Society is a group of friendly green
thumbs. The scope of our activities is limited only by the number of
willing volunteers to staff both regular committee spaces and one time
events. Consider volunteering your time for any of the following
Spring and Summer Season activities:
- Helpers are needed for the Plant Sale on 15th May at the Frontenac
Mall. Please sign up at the April or May meetings, or contact Adrian
Cooper: 613-540-3384 or adriancooper1@sympatico.ca)
- Helpers are needed at the Flower Shows on 26th June and 21st
August at the Frontenac Mall. Specific tasks include setting up the Show,
manning the desk for a hour or two, and helping with clean-up after the
show. Contact Adrian Cooper (see above).
- Judges for the Paterson Award. The awards are presented for
the best garden, as seen from the street, in each of the twelve districts
of Kingston. Experienced or novice applicants are welcome. You will form
part of a team. Judging takes place during July.
- Community Gardening: we have tireless volunteers who work at
planting and tending gardens in a variety of locations, including the
Paterson Memorial Rock Garden in Roden Park, Kingston Public Library,
Pump House Steam Museum, Lemoine Point and others. Whether you have a
lot of time or just a little, Jane Murphy will find a place for you.
Contact her at 613-542-9604 or jane.murphy@sympatico.ca
- Contributing to Columbine. Do you have a short garden story,
a gardening advice column, or maybe a horticultural book review? Please
submit it to b.chamberlain@sympatico.ca
